Eric, we are in 1st John chapter 4. John's going to talk to us about doing some spirit testing. So we're going to get into

some spirit testing today. Some spirit testing. Not a common phrase that you hear, you know,

every day of your life, Dan, but yes, he is going to talk about that. And there's a good reason for

talking about that, because as we have noted many times through our journey

in the New Testament, the early church is not immune from false teaching creeping into the church.

Usually it has to do with diminishing the person and work of Jesus Christ, as John certainly

counters in this letter. Sometimes it has to do specifically with his saving work,

you know, as you hear Paul counter in the book of Galatians. But it just is to say that there

has to be some means by which we determine what is truth from fiction when someone makes a claim

about the person and work of Jesus or about

the godhead, any number of issues that can come up. And so it makes sense that he has to say what

he says here in verse one, Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God,

for many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Well, you can say that again.

But, Dan, what is it that we might use to test the spirits?
