0:00.0	Hi, this is John. This week on the Synophiles, we are tackling one of my favorite movies from the 1980s in a film Steve hadn't seen in quite some time that's 1987's La Bamba. It tells the story of Ritchie Valens
0:15.0	who went from migrant farmer to rock and rose superstar
0:18.0	almost overnight
0:20.0	and sadly passed away at age 17
0:22.0	in that famous plane crash with Buddy Holly.
0:25.2	It stars a very young Lou Diamond Phillips, E.S.I. Morales, Rosanna DiSoto,
0:30.7	The late great Elizabeth Pena, Daniel Von Zernic and Joe Pentoliano, or Joey Pants as people like to name him.
0:38.3	But this film was such a fantastic film when it came out at the 1980s, telling the story of a Latino rock and roll
0:44.8	star. This didn't happen back then and this hasn't happened a lot since but this
0:50.2	one kind of broke the mold. Unfortunately Louis Valdez didn't do much after this
0:55.1	that matched what he accomplished in LeBamba,
0:57.0	and you could argue that a lot of people involved
0:58.7	with this movie never quite reached the heights
1:01.4	of what this movie did at that time in the late 80s but it is one
1:05.2	that is such a joy to go back to and revisit and I'm very happy that you all are coming
