Hello and welcome to my time capsule revisited.

0:14.5

This is one of our special episodes where I still ask people to tell me five things from their life that they wish they had in a time capsule,

0:21.6

four things that they cherish and one thing that they wish they could bury and forget,

0:25.7

but in this episode we revisit a past guest's episode and see if we cut out anything that we shouldn't have.

0:33.0

Now that habit was particularly the case in some of our early episodes when John, my son and producer,

0:38.6

Arthur, full name Brian John Arthur Smith, was one of the stand-up performers of the alternative comedy scene in the 1980s,

He's regularly attended the Edinburgh Fringe Comedy Festival since 1977

1:14.4

and still compares the long-running Hackney Empire New Act of the Year competition final.

1:20.5

He's also written a body of serious or semi-serious work,

1:24.4

including stage plays such as an evening with Gary Linneker.

1:28.5

He's been a radio presenter on such BBC programmes as Excess Baggage and Blue Sends, and was one of the grumpy old

1:34.2

men in the television series of that name. This episode was recorded at his apartment in Ballam.

1:40.5

Ways lived for years, and if you've already heard the original episode,

1:47.1

then I hope this version, virtually everything we recorded,

1:51.0

will provide you with some additional anecdotes and stories that will entertain.

1:56.7

It also ought to give you a clearer impression of the delightful, thoughtful, intelligent,

1:59.3

and very funny man that Arthur is.
