With me, my friend and colleague, Mr. Ewan McElwreff.

Over the last 18 months of so during the pandemic, I've been taking a look at some of the Scottish folklore, and some of it's very strange indeed.

This was interesting. It was a kind of a by-product of the whole sort of lockdown process and things,

which kind of forced us down a creative route that we hadn't been there before.

You became particularly interested in a whole series of weird and wonderful critters from Scottish folklore.

And hand-on heart, I don't think I'd heard of one of them.

Well, that was a common reaction to many of them.

Actually, he's always back to my aunt, who was a very keen folklorist.

I remember vividly about seven, eight years old, listening to her stories.

Molly Hunter, wonderful stories about fantastic creatures and kelpies and fairies.

But if you go a bit deeper, like, there's one I got this week called the Shelley Coat that lives in the waters of Leith.

In the year 1825, a young 16-year-old enrolled for medicine at Edinburgh University.

He was following in the footsteps of his father and his grandfather.

But his heart wasn't in it, and he left two years later without a degree.
