I got a new idea for a lawsuit against the LDS Church today.

You know, a lot of lawsuits have been filed in recent years wanting

tithing money back on the basis that the church has misrepresented its

religious beliefs to its members. Those lawsuits have typically gone

nowhere because they've gotten bogged down and the protections provided by the first amendment.

But this week the landscape has completely changed.

This week the church has number one admitted that it intentionally

broke the law in order to conceal from its members the fact

that it had $32 billion in the US stock market.

Number two the church has also admitted through its representatives that

one of the reasons for doing that was because they were worried that if the members

knew how much money the church had the members would not pay

tithing. So what if a lawsuit were filed by one or more members of the church

claiming that if they had known that the LDS Church had

$32 billion in the US stock market they wouldn't have paid tithing

and that because of that reason the church owes them their tithing back

during the period that the church was engaged in the self-admitted fraud.

That would be an interesting lawsuit.

No first amendment there just straight up corporate damages

for fraud. Interesting idea huh?
