Unfortunately, horror as a genre has had like more trans representation and more like

drag representation than most other film genres. If it's not comedy, it's horror.

You may know two of our time-honored guests, BJ and Harmony Kalangelo, as the hosts of the

podcast, This Ends at Prom, which looks at coming of age and teen girl movies from their queer,

feminist, cisgender, and transgender perspectives. But these dark wives are also prolific horror film

analysts who are contributors to Fangoria Magazine and Shutter's Queer for Fear Docu series,

as well as co-authors of the forthcoming book Sleepaway Camp that focuses on the queer themes

of this controversial 1980s slasher. As a companion to our series on early drag queens,

I've invited them both on the show to dissect the popular horror trope of the murderous

man in a dress, and all the complicated trans and drag representation in movies like Sleepaway

Camp, Psycho, The Silence of the Lambs, dressed to kill and the rocky horror picture show.

We'll talk about how these cross-dressing killers have affected the psyche of Americans

through the decades, whether there is anything redeemable about these characters,
