We were talking earlier about how our relationship with fear gets established in childhood.

Right now, the predominant way that we're taught to deal with fear is some form of resistance

to it.

That's my word.

It starts in childhood when little Johnny first says, I'm scared.

And dad says, well, meaning, well, there's nothing to be

afraid of. That assures me that that kid is going to grow up with an anxiety disorder.

Because all of a sudden, that kid, it's like, okay, this very real feeling that I'm feeling

in my body, I shouldn't be feeling.

I'm now embarrassed about it. I actually call that fear shaming. Fear shaming is the reason why we

have anxiety disorders, because we start to think that there's something wrong with us that we have

this normal and natural fear that's with us from birth to death, with us all the time. And if we're

feeling like there's something wrong with us that we feel fear,

which is around all the time, we're going to think that all the time there is something wrong with us.
