Today we're going to turn to on the ground for one of the more unique missions during the eight year secret war.

And this story has like two stories on one mission that is, as we unfold here, we hope you enjoy it.

We're start with, this is the 1969 at CCN.

Lin Black was the one zero of RTI to hood at that time.

And it was at night. In fact, around midnight, when Lin Black and his team was woken to go for a bright light.

And the bright light was a mission when a team was in trouble to send another team in.

And so Lin Black was designated for that.

And he learned that there had been a 28 man hatchet force that had been hit while moving toward a POW camp.

This was an American POW camp.

And the mission of that hatchet force was to go and to relieve, find any Americans in that camp.

During the time on the ground, the team got ambushed. They inflicted heavy casualties and the mission had to be terminated.

Then at that point, during the efforts to extract the survivors, a rescue helicopter had been brought down by heavy gunfire.

There were at least six men on the ground. Perhaps more who needed help, they needed it badly.

Black and his team were being asked to run a bright light in night.

And they were asked to go in ASAP. Also to add to the story, they were being asked to repel in to find a team.

The team that was on the ground was a hatchet force. This hatchet force was a platoon.

Had 24 indigenous forces, soldiers that were on it.

And four US green berets led by Lieutenant David Gordon.
