Summary

The Six Nations were not alone on the continent. There were many other nationalities that inhabited the north eastern woodlands. This week we will talk about where the Huron, Erie, Neutrals, Susquehannock, Mahican, Delaware and other nations lived at the time of first contact with the Europeans.

0:29.9	So we're going to be talking about prehistory, right,
0:32.7	and also kind of a setup on where all the other nations are around the Erequois Confederacy.

0:39.7	We're going to, because to have context, you've got to know who their friends, allies, neighbors,
0:44.7	people that they were interacting with are.
0:46.7	And enemies.
0:48.5	And that's probably going to mostly be who they are.

1:00.9	You said that longhouses could be up to a football field in length.

1:08.0	Based on my limited knowledge of longhouses from visiting the Ganandigan historical site,
1:13.0	it seems like super longhouses would be difficult to defend. That's a great question, Steve. And we are
1:18.7	going to do at some point a whole episode basically on long houses and how they were built. So I'll
1:25.0	just try to answer that real quickly for you. Longhouses could get up to a
1:29.3	football field long. They normally weren't that long, but some of the biggest ones were. And when
