So Father, as we come now to your word we are aware that we're not reading the

word of mere men. Though you used John to record your word, but that this is your word.

It is pure, undefiled, unvarnished truth, inherent, infallible in all of its ways. I pray that you would cultivate within a receptive

heart, a teachable spirit, and help us to put into practice what we learn.

So Father, I pray for these men that today would be a very profitable time in your word.

So use me simply as a tool, as an instrument that you've picked up.

Fill me with your spirit, lay your hand upon me for good so that I can help unpack this passage.

We pray this in Christ's name.

Okay, we're in 1st John 5. 1st John 5 and today our goal is to look at verses 17 through 19 and the

title of this is Sin, Satan, and the world.

Sin, Satan, and the world.

So we've got a biggie in front of us here.

I want to begin by reading the passage beginning in verse 17 all unrighteousness is

sin and there is a sin not leading to death. We know that no one who is born of God sins, but he who was

born of God keeps him and the evil one does not touch him. We know that we are

of God and that the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.
