And it's just been announced that your book has been awarded the 2021 Open Publication Prize by the ISPM. Congratulations.

Yes, thank you. It's a real honor, you know, to be recognized by academic peers.

And it's the International Association for the Study of Popular Music. It's a great community of

academics who are usually also music

fans, which is why they got into studying what they do. And that's very much my story too. So,

because you just don't know, do you, when you put something new out into the world, how it's

Fantastic. So let's go back. When did you first discover the Beatles?

I was really young and I think the first few times I heard their music, I must have been about five or six years old. I think I was five years old because there was a very memorable trip that my sister and I took together without our parents. It was the first time we were flying across the U.S. on our own to visit our

favorite aunt and uncle in Colorado. I grew up in Chicago, so it's, you know, a two-and-a-half-hour

flight or something. And when we were staying with them, they played us all sorts of albums

when we were having breakfast, and the White Album was one of the albums they played us all sorts of albums when we were having breakfast, and the white album was one of the albums they played.
