This week on Murderous Miners, we continue our look at police officers killed in the line of duty by juveniles and focus on the felony murder charges brought against 14s in the killing of Amy Sorrows Caprio.

The 29 year old officer with the Baltimore County Police Department was just one month or so away from her fourth anniversary with them and was already ensconced in what could be foreseen as a promising law enforcement career.

In March 2018, Officer Caprio had been given the Officer of the Month Award for her precinct and the hometown gal was thought to have a lengthy career ahead, dedicated to public service and full of further accolades.

Her award came after her investigative work located some package thieves, the previous holiday season who had been porch pirating homes all over Baltimore County, Maryland.

She was able to link previously thought to be unrelated theft to the same individuals, finding a huge amount of stolen property in the pair's hotel room once they were caught.

The events leading up to the end of Officer Caprio's career and life began with the report of a routine break-in on May 18, 2018.

The local graduate of Lockraven High School in Towson University was preparing to turn 30 on May 27 and was working her last shifts before going on vacation for a week to celebrate her and her husband's birthdays as well as their third wedding anniversary.

The dog lover likely had treats in her patrol car that day like she always did, while over and nearby Baltimore City, Maryland, a man came home to a mess and soon reported that his home had been burglarized.

His 2016 Jeep Wrangler had been stolen along with its spare key.

Before police could respond to take his report in person, a different officer arrived at his home to tell him that his Jeep had been involved in a hit-and-run, but the owner hadn't been involved and he had no idea who had done it.

He went on with his life but multiple burglaries involving his Jeep began being reported three days later on the 21st of May.

16-year-old Derek Matthews, his 17-year-old cousin Eugene Genius and their friends Dante Harris, 16 and Daryl Ward, 15, had ditched school and driven the Jeep into Baltimore County.

Security footage from a home on Ardmore Avenue and Parkville, Maryland showed Genius stealing a package that had been left by someone's front door.

A neighbor witnessed the theft as well and gave a statement explaining that though the windows had been darkly tinted, he was still able to see the outlines of a total of four people inside as the Jeep drove past his house.

An hour later it was seen parked outside of a house on North Wind Road that the owner would later report had been ransacked.

20 minutes later it was five miles away on Lin-Win Way in the Perry Hill section of Nottingham, Maryland.

The Jeep was spotted as were three unidentified males looking into the window of a house around 150 pm with a neighbor snapping cell phone pictures and sending them to the homeowners who instructed her to immediately call 911.

They weren't expecting any visitors so when she saw the unknown trio enter her neighbor's home, she called 911 again in order to update responding officers to the changing situation.
