Today I have a quick poem to read to you and I found this one by just taking, I have

this big anthology of poetry on myself and I just picked it off and skimmed through

it until I found something nice to read.

I think you'll like this one.

This is a poem by Kingsley Amos, it's called After Goliath, as in Goliath, the biblical Goliath,

the David, the David Kilt.

The first shot out of that sling was enough to finish the thing.

The champion laid out cold before half the programmes were sold, and then what hauls

of dismay, from his fans in their dense array, from alderman adjutance aunts, administrators

of grants, assurance men, auctioneers, advisers about careers and advertisers of course, plus

the obvious bastards in force.

The whole reprehensible throng, ten times an alphabet strong, but such an auspicious

debut was a little too good to be true.

Our victor sensed, the applause from those who supported his cause, sounded shrill and

excessive now, and who were they anyhow?

Academics, actors who lecture, apostles of architecture, ancient gods of the abdomen

men, angst pushers, adherents of zen, alastas, austenites, a-test abolishes.
