Usually careers have chapters to them and you can look back and sort of start to define those chapters.

The unfortunate thing is you don't get to necessarily define them at the beginning of the book.

Nancy describes her career as a constant zinging and zagging. In college, she thought she might be in advertising,

but then she moved over to TV, news, and then producing, before realizing her biggest talent

was as a leader and finding her path to CEO. Nancy spent 20 years at A&E, five of those as CEO,

before joining Vice in the spring of 2017. I met her at the vice offices in Brooklyn,

where we talked about her career, the most pivotal moments. She also says there was a time when

she really underestimated herself, and she shares how she figured that out and made a change.

We also talk about her vision for Vice. It's not a company without a little controversy in its past,

and we get into that. And she talks about how she handles difficult decisions, the ones that she's

over to Brooklyn. It's actually a really cool space that you have here. I've been looking around.

We were just talking about the fact you do have a fair amount of plants. I do, I do. Do you water
