Hi this is Steve. For the last week I've been studying Mel Gibson's 1995 Academy Award-winning film Brave Art.

I've waited through fight choreography and period costumes, use of slow motion, locations, film scoring, and sound design.

But this film has also led me to study the real lives

of William Wallace, Robert the Bruce, King Edward the First of England,

and their battles over the independence of Scotland,

which in turn has led me to the modern Scottish independence movement and its connections to Ireland,

Brexit and European politics.

In other words, as so often happens in my preparation for the Cinephiles,

a single film has led me down a crazy rabbit hole that will only end when John and I get

together tomorrow night to record the actual episode.

And of course, it's talking to John and hearing his thoughts about the film, which is actually

the fun part.

You see, all I really know right now is that he loves the movie, but how that love manifests

itself in his life and his way of looking at the world is, until tomorrow night, a complete
