After we would get home from work at about 5 p.m. most days, we would change and then go to the

woods in the hills just outside of town. For context, the woods that we'd go to were

12 miles long and 4 miles wide.

There are some breaks in the woods with farmland and fields,

which has created separate woods with different names all over the hills.

While the farmland and fields are privately owned, these woods are public lands,

so people can walk through the woods if they

want to. There are paths winding through most of the woods, and if someone wanted to walk

over the span of hills from one side to the other, it was possible. Most of that journey is made

through the woods, and it's mostly uphill coming from the south.

The woods we always went to were called Wind Down Woods.

My partner and I would go to these woods nearly every day just to go for a walk or smoke, or both.

On this particular night, we went about doing our usual routine,
