Hi this is Steve. We take our movies pretty seriously at the Cinephiles. We like digging deep into themes, history, filmmaking, and the lives of the artist behind the most powerful films ever made.

But the truth is as much as I like that deep stuff after a long day, I actually don't want

to jump into Italian neo-realism, the French New Wave, or some other movie I'm supposed to watch.

Most of the time, I just want to turn off my brain and watch something dumb and fun.

And I can't think of anything that fits that description better than the 1996 Jerry Bruckheimer, Simon West Classic Con Ayr.

Call it mindless action, say it has ridiculous characters in a completely unbelievable situation,

call it the epitome of 90s action movie Excess, and I'll probably agree with you on every point,

but this movie still makes me smile. Part of it is the

unbelievable ensemble led by Malkovich, Kuzak, and of course Nick Cage. Part of

it is that it knows how ridiculous this whole thing is,

and part of it is just that special Bruckheimer touch.
