Now, a couple of episodes ago, we discussed how to study your Bible.

And last week we talked about how to prepare a Bible lesson. So we figured that today would be a good opportunity for us to discuss how to prepare a sermon and sort of building on those things we've talked about over the last couple of weeks.

Again, like I've mentioned in previous episodes, if you haven't given those episodes to listen,

you'll definitely want to do that before we delve into this stuff because we're, like I said,

going to be building on that.

So, Aaron, just to get us started off on this topic, there obviously are all different styles and types of sermons. Which type are we going to be covering today? We're going to do something called a deductive sermon. Deductive

sermons has been around for a long time. James Broadus wrote a book about this in the 1800s. Haddon

Robinson's written books on a deductive sermon.

Basically, a deductive sermon is where you spill the beans at the beginning.

You reveal what your topic is, typically in the form of a propositional statement.

And the rest of your sermon hangs off of that and fleshes it out.

There are other types of sermon styles, which are pretty helpful.

And an inductive sermon is a sermon where you present an option and then declare it to be false, present another option, declare it to be

false, present another option, declare it to be false, and then at the end you have the big reveal

where you present the biblical truth pertaining to your subject matter.

This works out really well if you're doing like an apologetics type message.

There's also a style of preaching called the four pages approach, which doesn't mean your sermon has to be four pages,
