Summary

This week Paul & Amy are digging into all things Oscars and the Best Picture Nominees of 2024. The two ask, "was Barbie the most culturally significant film of 2023 and could it win Best Picture?" and "should Killers of the Flower Moon and Poor Things be thirty minutes shorter?" Then, Paul and Amy challenge each other to get every Oscar category wrong, because they can’t help but to vote with their hearts. We invite you, the listener, to get the Oscars wrong with us! Miyasaki is overrated, Paul Sheer.

All this and more on today's Unspooled Oscar Edition. Hello everybody and welcome to

0:46.9

and welcome to

0:49.9

0:59.0

And we have a big episode. The Oscar episode. I love doing this episode with you. We already talked about some of the best films of the year.

1:05.0

Now we're getting into what has been deemed the best films, the award-worthy films, and it wouldn't be the Oscars without a bet. Last year we had a bet.

1:16.5

Whoever got the most wrong would have to wear the other person's favorite MBA Jersey. You're a

1:21.5

Laker fan. I'm a clipper fan. You were forced to wear... A clipper's,

1:25.2

Jersey, two a clippers, Lakers game. It was absolutely brutal. I was absolutely horrified.

1:31.0

I was so sad. And you know what, I knew that I walked into it. The whole

1:34.1

time my boyfriend was embarrassed to be with me and he said, why can't you just

1:37.6

vote your ballots better? Why do you always vote your ballot with your heart?

1:40.5

Because that's where I go wrong. I vote with my heart every single year on the

1:43.4

Oscars and it means I always lose. So this year we're going to do something a little

1:46.7

different we're just going to try to lose as many as possible. That way I can vote

1:50.2

for my heart when I think my heart is actually going to be betrayed and so whoever

1:54.4

gets the most wrong yes is now the champion I love it and I've already been

1:58.4

overthinking my wrong choices I cannot wait but let's get into it because we have a big show here.
