Summary

We've got a pleasantly floral potpourri this week, mainly focused on Will's trip report from this weekend's Bay Area Maker Faire, the first time the DIY science and tech show has been held since 2019. If you want to hear about model-size mag-lev trains, personal undersea robots, the cottage industry of R2-D2 replica builders, and more, this is your podcast. If you also want to hear about Brad's contemplation of a PC water cooling conversion and Will's recent questionable RGB projects, that's in here too! Support the Pod! I had to clean the stove top the other day.

0:02.8

Did you have to?

0:05.0

Well, okay, so the oven's not worked for a little bit, and we mostly use the toaster oven slash air fryer in the summer because it makes the house less hot than the real oven does.

0:13.7

Understandable.

0:14.3

So, like, the oven's been broken for a bit, and the guy was coming to look at the oven to see what was wrong with it.

0:21.9

And the top, like, I like to think at the oven to see what was wrong with it. And the top,

0:27.6

I like to think that a thin layer of grease on the top of the stove top helps to protect the, the, the enamel of the stove top. It's a lubricant. It's a sealant, it's a sealant,

0:32.1

whatever you want to call it. Yeah. It's keeping the bad stuff out and the good stuff in, right? It's like wax for your car.

0:56.4

0:59.2

I like to let the, let life find a way.

1:08.4

And you know, that stuff that gets like the hard baked on kind of like, they're like dark spots usually.

1:09.3

1:13.4

if the burner's hot.

1:14.3

And then it's really hard to get off.

1:16.6

So I went to the internet, as one does, to find out how to remove these, hopefully

1:20.4

with chemistry or something that wouldn't involve me scrubbing for three hours.

1:23.8

And somebody on the internet said, hey, if you have a lay crusette, an enameled Dutch oven, like one of those Dutch ovens, and you bought their fancy unnecessary for the Lake Cruset Dutch oven, but totally necessary for other enameled cookware, cleaner, which is, I think, just something that's more basic than like baking soda, but less basic than, like, you know, lithium hydroxide or something.

1:45.0

It takes that stuff right off.

1:46.7

Okay.

1:47.4

So I degreased to the top and I, I wedded the stuff on the sponge and I put it on there and I rubbed it on.

1:54.2

Let's sit for a few minutes.
