The You're hearing pink noise by my guest Ray Barbie.

Primarily known as a skateboarder, Barbie pioneered street skating in the 1980s and has influenced generations of skaters.

His passion for skating and music have long been intertwined and he began releasing his own genre-bending

recordings in 2003.

A multi-instrumentalist, raised collaborators have included John Herndon, Doug Sharon, and

Carlos de la Garza.

Aside from his work in music and skateboarding, Barbie is also a celebrated photographer.

I spoke to him in downtown Los Angeles.

And now my conversation with Ray Barbie.

Yeah, when people ask me like, what do you do? I tell them that, you know, I skateboard for a living.

I turned pro when I was 17.

And thankfully, that's what I still do to this day.

I'll be 48 on the 5th of October.

But I tell them also that a big part of what I do is I love photography and I play music.

And so my sponsors, they can utilize my interests in towards what they're doing. So you were just telling me that you were driving around

l.a and shooting photos for vans which is one of your sponsors yes exactly yeah and so they'll

they'll they'll ask me to you know they'll commission me to do photos for either their stores or if they're doing an article or something.

One year they sent me out to Coachella just to shoot it from my perspective, which was super fun.
