The Legend of Cave Boy, written by darkly gathers no names no laughter no

laughter no silver or gold no coming back after no tales untold.

The rhyme that every kid west of the river knows by heart.

The riddle that passes and whispers across the playgrounds,

and nervous giggles by the shadows of the high school lockers,

and the rules that form the basis for all the best drinking games at the nights in the local college.

There are the rules one had to know when in pursuit of Caveboy.

The rain is light, but the wind is fierce, and it drags these spraying bitter streaks across my face.

I squinted, hood pulled tight, my fingers clenching and unclenching in search of warmth.

We have gathered at the hole, the seven of us, and we talk quietly amongst ourselves,

amiably, anxiously, as two unravels the ladder and starts to lower it down.

No names. Rule number one.

If we were going to do this, we decided that we were going to do it properly.

So no names.

We've all known each other for years, but for this evening's excursion, we've numbered up.

I'm number three.

Down will go down into the hole and we will debunk the myth of cave boy or return home heroes with proof of his existence once and for all.

The hole itself is narrow and dark.

Can't be more than two feet in diameter, situated not half a mile from the edge of the cliff.

It's the only natural feature around, and it's a claustrophobic's worst nightmare.

There are no trees up here, no bushes, no streams, or even large rocks.
