Darniel, singer and songwriter of the band The Mountain Goats,

about what it means to be a fan, to be an artist, and to be both at once.

Also, we talk about a lot of other things just kind of whatever comes up.

This season we are going song by song with a new Mountain Goat's album in League with Dragons.

We have reached the end of this season of ours. That's right. This is the last episode and we are finishing with the first song written for this album.

The song so first it never actually made it to the album. That's right, we are preparing to deploy the

hand of death.

Now, John. Now John just before we started recording you were telling me that this was the first

song when you were writing it that it started to feel like you were writing toward an album.

Yeah, I sort of felt, I mean I always, I say that, but if you comb through the episodes,

there would be another song I say that about.

But yeah, I remember writing this and you go, oh, I'm in album mode now.

It was also that I wrote two songs that day, right? And I sort of was like, oh, well, you're in, you're doing your thing that you do now. And so I had some ideas. Oh, and it's also, well, yeah it was in, um, it was in two, two four, kind of.

Did I talk at all about this original concept for the album, the next album was going to be every song

in a different time signature?

That is right.

You did talk about that and I've forgotten.
