When did you come up with the idea to start talking about all these studies that you're doing at Harvard and Oxford on YouTube and making them public?

0:16.0

I've always just been a total dork and liked explaining things. So it was a matter of me reading a paper and being like, this is cool.

0:23.2

How can I translate this to something that is engaging for other people?

0:26.6

So it could be like, you know, a paper, the title is long and complex.

0:29.8

It wouldn't catch the average person's attention.

0:31.4

But I'm like, basically what this is saying is that, you know, what is a catchy way to put it?

0:37.0

So for one example, it could be diet Coke causes anxious sperm.

0:41.7

You're like, what's up with this?

0:42.6

I'm like, well, actually, this is this really cool study where you take, you know,

0:45.6

aspartame, the sweetener and Diet Coke at pretty low doses,

0:48.7

and you can induce anxiety in mice that can cause anxiety in future generations.

0:53.3

And then you kind of go through the

0:54.1

data, try to break it down. When you explain it to people, I think the average person is actually

0:57.7

pretty intelligent. You say, look, this is how you look at this kind of graph. And it's something that I

1:01.5

just ended up doing because I like explaining science. It was a fun exercise for me. And it's pretty

1:06.6

easy with, you know, I just pull out my iPhone after I read a paper, record something,

1:11.0

and that's been it's all it's been. Being public on social media, that kind of, like, well,

1:16.0

having more of a presence just evolve than never really intended for it to happen. So it's

1:21.3

something I'm kind of exploring now, because it's kind of fun. I was trying to actually decide on

1:26.1

a topic to talk about at an upcoming conference in March.

1:29.9

And what I think I'm going to go with is something about when worlds collide,

1:34.5

when Jade Tower academia and the lay public kind of, you know, those worlds collide.
