Summary

It's our annual round-up of tools for educators, and this time along with it, we're announcing the launch of the online version of our Teacher's Guide to Tech! This year we're talking about three new AI tools, a platform for creating interactive lessons, a video editor, and a tool that makes text more accessible to everyone, plus a replacement for any teacher who really misses Flip! My lead technology specialist, Marnie Diem, joins me to talk about them.

Thanks to Alpaca and Brisk Teaching for sponsoring this episode.

This is Jennifer Gonzalez, welcoming you to episode 241 of the Cultive Pedagogy podcast. In this episode,

0:07.1

we're going to talk about six ed tech tools you should try in 2025. Every January for the last 10 years, we have chosen a small collection of tech tools we think are worth checking out.

0:30.0

That will be the same this year, and that's what we will be talking about in this episode.

0:34.7

But something else is going to be different this year. Because traditionally,

0:40.2

when we put out this list, we do it to coincide with the release of our annual teacher's guide

0:45.7

to tech. This year, we're not releasing an annual version of the tech guide, not in the same way

0:52.4

that we always have. Past versions of the guide have been in

0:56.2

PDF form. We created a brand new version once a year and released it just once a year. Starting now in

1:04.2

2025, we have moved the entire guide online to Teachers Guide to Tech.com. And from from here on out it'll be accessible through a

1:13.6

subscription rather than a downloadable PDF. We made this change for two reasons. First because creating

1:21.6

the update every year took about two solid months. Every November and December, I was completely consumed with updating

1:28.7

the tech guide, and that kept me from doing pretty much anything else. I turned down speaking

1:34.0

offers, I cut back on podcast creation, and work on any other project had to come to a complete

1:40.3

standstill because of the tech guide. We had to get it as close to perfect as possible

1:46.4

for that once a year release, and that was a lot of pressure. And once it was released, the guide

1:52.1

would slowly start to depreciate and value over the year. As links broke, tools changed their

1:58.1

names or disappeared completely, videos suddenly vanished from YouTube,

2:02.6

and new tools came on the scene that had no mention in that year's guide.

2:07.0

Moving the guide online will allow us to update it anytime we want.

2:10.9

This means the content will stay fresh all year

2:13.4

and will never again have to concentrate all of our update work

2:17.0

into the end of the calendar year.
