It's been said that one of the big subjects of conflict in a marriage is money, and I think

that's probably true. But there's a form of debt that is money, and I think that's probably true.

But there's a form of debt that is much more deadly to a marriage. There's a form of debt that destroys marriages.

There's a form of debt that may right now be weakening and destroying marriages in this room.

It's not money debt. It's relational debt. You say, Paul, I don't know what you mean. Well, it's very interesting.

In the early translations of the Lord's Prayer,

that prayer that is the model prayer for us,

there's one request that's translated this way,

forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Isn't that

interesting? It's not talking about money. It's talking about something that happens in relationships.

You see, when you hold on to a wrong, when you refuse to forgive,

when you now have something that you hold over that person,

you've placed that person in your debt. And that debt is terribly destructive

to marriage. Why don't we forgive? Why do we hold on to things?

Well, the answer is in that word debt.
