Today we get to speak to, once again, Retired Agent Kyle Voinkel, who served in the FBI

for 24 years.

In this episode, Kyle reviews how he, as a member of the FBI's Crisis Negotiation Unit,

CNU, negotiated the peaceful surrender of one of the Boston Marathon bombers.

It is a powerful first-hand insiders perspective on the capture of a violent domestic terrorist

responsible along with his older brother for killing three and injuring 281 others.

The bombings took place on April 15, 2013.

While a member of CNU, Kyle not only convinced a terrorist to surrender, but he also negotiated

with kidnappers and pirates.

Before his CNU assignment, Kyle served for eight years on the FBI's Elite Hostage Rescue

Team, HRT, and as a tactical operator on HRT, he deployed on hundreds of high-risk missions

domestically, as well as overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan.

During his bureau career, Kyle has had assignments in over 20 countries, including China, Qatar,

Kenya, South Korea, and Peru.

After serving on HRT and the CNU, he used his leadership experiences as a supervisor

in multiple field offices and retired as Assistant Special Agent in Charge, ASAC, and

the Miami Division.
