Yesterday afternoon, we as New York Jet fans found out our quarterback plan for 2025.

And if you dive into the numbers of the contract they gave to Justin Fields, I think you get a better idea of what's going on here.

So they signed him to a two-year $40 million contract, 30 of it guaranteed, blah, blah, blah.

Right.

His cap number this season is a very manageable $8.5 million.

Next year, year two of this deal, if the Jets decide, you know what, he stinks.

It's not working out.

He's missing production meetings.

We don't like Justin Fields.

They could cut him, and they would face a dead money cap hit of about $10 million,

which is not a anything crazy.

So the jets are set up to kind of look, see at Justin Fields on a very reasonable,

very reasonable cap number this year, evaluate him, see what he's got, see how he fits this offense, see how he fits this system.

And if things go badly, or let's say they draft a young quarterback and they really like said young quarterback,

they could cut him and move on very quickly.

And so this to me is the definition of a lottery ticket.

It is a lottery ticket, which is why my point yesterday when

Sean broke the glass and made the announcement was, okay, cool, I like it. I'm not celebrating.

I'm not telling you the Jets are going to win the Super Bowl. I'm not telling you this is the greatest

move ever. I'm going to remember where I was when the glass broke and found out about Justin

Fields, but I think it's a smart move.

And I think what it does on draft day is it allows the Jets to let the board come to them.
