There are worse things than spending a holiday in Normandy.

And one of those things is spending a holiday in Normandy because you just lost your entire

kingdom to the Danes.

And actually that wasn't all that King Athol Red had lost.

By 1013, Eddrid, one of his younger sons from his marriage to Elf Gifu, had died.

Now records are poor enough that we can't be certain why or even exactly when he died.

But for those of you who are keeping score, we're now down to just three sons from the

King's first marriage.

There was only the Crown Prince Athol Stan and his younger brothers Edmund and Edwig.

And that means that against all odds, the House of Normandy was inching ever closer

to the English Crown.

Or at least it would have been inching ever closer had it not been for the fact that

Athol Red had now lost the Crown and was just couch surfing at his brother-in-law's

place.
