0:47.2	David spent most of his bureau career assigned to the Los Angeles International Airport, also known as LAX. When he retired, he was considered
0:57.8	one of the FBI's experts in crimes on board aircraft. Before joining the FBI, David Gates spent
1:05.4	seven years with the United States Customs Service at LAX. His first assignment was to the Los Angeles Division,
1:13.9	and within a year of graduating from the FBI Academy, he was transferred to the offsite at LAX,
1:20.6	which at the time was manned by three agents. He ended up spending 20 years at LAX with the FBI. Over those years, the squad grew to its
1:31.4	current composition of a full task force with a dozen agents and officers. In 2017, David was
1:39.6	selected as the first ever supervisory special agent for the newly formed LAX squad.
1:47.0	David has worked on hundreds of investigations involving crimes on board aircraft and federal
1:53.7	crimes at airports. He's presented at over 100 conferences as a specialist in aviation crimes, including national Joint Terrorism Task
2:05.3	Force, JTTF conferences, international aviation security symposiums, and other law enforcement events.
2:13.2	He is the recipient of a dozen U.S. Attorney's Office Awards and multiple National
2:19.8	Counterintelligence Awards for Outstanding Investigations, two FBI Medals of Excellence,
2:27.1	and over 20 FBI citations for outstanding achievement.
