Summary
This is a talk I did for the 2024 National Symposium for Classical Education that took place in March 2024, presented by Great Hearts Institute.
Our old stories have been remembered, retold, and refined in different guises for thousands of years. For that very reason, what we consider Fairy Tales, although at first glance fanciful and absurd, contain patterns of attention, of harmony and disharmony, what Pythagoras called the Music of the Spheres. For being remembered and retold, they hold a key to what is important to us as humans. We will explore these patterns of consciousness, how stories frame and underlie our experiences with rhythm, how they shape us and our children by attention and care.

| 0:13.0 | Welcome to the symbolic world. If I have a pattern of behavior, it is always towards a purpose. |
| 0:32.1 | And then we realize that that's what patterns are actually for. |
| 0:44.3 | And so every time that we experience multiplicity coming into one, every time we experience variability that suddenly appears as it's moving towards purpose, |
| 0:50.3 | what's happening is we are experiencing the music of the spheres. |
| 0:55.0 | We're experiencing the pattern of the cosmos, and it brings us great joy. |
| 1:03.0 | Every time you see a great past in the football game, you're experiencing the music of the spheres. |
| 1:10.0 | Because you see these several players moving, |
| 1:13.3 | and all of a sudden something happens. He throws the ball, and the other person is exactly |
| 1:16.9 | in the right place. For some reason, they're not even looking at each other, but they know where |
| 1:21.1 | to be, and he catches it. And we rejoice. Why do we rejoice? If you break it down to its elements, it's pretty silly. |
| 1:29.1 | Why do we rejoice? We rejoice because we see multiplicity come into one. We see action move and pattern |
| 1:37.7 | towards purpose. And so we experience the music of the spheres when we see a cook make a great meal. |
| 1:48.5 | Because they take all this stuff, the meat, the vegetables, the spices, they bring them together, |
| 1:54.5 | they mix them up, but not just mix them up. |
| 1:57.1 | They move them towards purpose. |
| 1:59.5 | And so when we eat the meal, we rejoice |
| 2:01.6 | because we're experiencing the music of the spheres. |
| 2:04.6 | We're experiencing multiplicity move into pattern, |
| 2:07.6 | multiplicity move into purpose. |
| 2:09.6 | And so this image, the image of the heavenly man, |
| 2:15.6 | if we can put it up again, |
