On this episode of the Swalier Pride podcast, we have Dr. Michelle Chucci. She's an SLP, neuroscientist,

and professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a joint appointment at the Department

sciences, and disorders. The focus of her research program is to explore the behavioral

and neurobiological underpinnings of sensory motor control for cranial motor systems and health and disease.

An important aspect of conducting translational research will have implications for patient care is to establish appropriate physiological, behavioral, and neurochemical essays that can address mechanism.

Her primary focus is laryngeal and lingual function and dysfunction with regard to voice,

swallowing, and general sensory motor control.

Additionally, she has developed assays for cognition memory, effect, gait, and fine and

gross limb control.

vocal deficits within the larger context of disease onset and progression. More importantly,

she's also exploring mechanisms outside of traditional neurologic framework, and the concept is

that Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease are whole body diseases that affect the central

systems and neuroadrenergic systems. Most of her work has explored the timeline and mechanisms

of Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease using both clinical and basic science models.

She also conducts research using high resolution monometry and has published over 80 scientific articles

and has been continuously funded by the NIH for over 15 years.
