Summary

Gardening burnout happens when a garden becomes so much more work than you can keep up with and a source of disappointment — one disaster after another — rather than a source of joy. It’s the feeling of not just being overwhelmed but wanting to give up gardening altogether (at least for now). This week, I identify the sources of gardening burnout and the adjustments gardeners can make so they never get to that point.

The topic of gardening burnout never really came up

Overwhelm yes, but I'm going to say that those are not the same thing. There are some similarities, but they're not exactly the same. And we'll talk about the differences and similarities in a minute. The reason why I'm bringing this conversation up today is that as this year

0:49.9

talking about gardening burnout from within my online gardening a community of several

0:54.8

thousand people to social media post and pretty much everywhere I was turning people were talking

1:00.5

about how difficult this year was compared to any other year.

1:04.7

And I'll be the first to say, you know, gardening is not necessarily considered easy.

1:08.8

There is a lot to do. It can be pretty demanding demanding especially when you consider environmental

1:14.8

external forces it causes us to do a lot of things that we hadn't planned on doing

1:19.8

so I get it the guarding burnout is something different than guarding overwhelmed.

1:24.4

And I think we've all felt overwhelmed with gardening at some point if we've been doing it for any

1:29.1

length of time at all. It can easily feel that way. And if with gardening certainly with other aspects of our life

1:35.4

it tends to creep in all too often and the same thing with burnout but today I

1:39.4

definitely want to cover the aspects of how we recognize it in the garden and how we deal with it.

1:45.2

Where does it come from? How do we avoid it or manage it? And if nothing else, I want you to
