The disappearance of Madeline McCann is one of the most high-profile missing child cases in the

history of the world. That is not an exaggeration. The Daily Telegraph once described her

disappearance as the most heavily reported missing person case in modern history. Her case was

definitely the most heavily reported missing person case in the history of the UK. Madeline was just three

years old, nine days away from turning four, when she disappeared on what had been up to the time

of her disappearance, an idyllic family vacation at a resort in a southern Portuguese beach town.

And what a salacious, who done it, her disappearance would set motion. On the night of May 3,

2007, her parents, Kate and

Jerry McCann and some of their friends went out to a tapas restaurant on the property of the

resort they were staying at. The group chose to leave their children in their respective apartments

and implemented a rotation system to check on their kids throughout the night. Around 10 p.m.,

it was time for Kate McCann to check on her kids.

She got up and left the table. A few minutes later, she opened a bedroom door and discovered a scene

that is every parent's worst nightmare. Her twins were sleeping peacefully in their beds, but Madeline's

bed was empty, and the window was open, And little Madeline was nowhere to be found.

Kate and Jerry, their friends on vacation with them and other resort guests and staff, began a frantic search for the little girl.

The police were called, and they would try to reassure Madeline's parents that she probably just wandered off as children sometimes do, and that she'd soon be found sleeping somewhere close by.

But then hours passed, and the little girl still wasn't found. Hours turned to days, days turned to weeks, weeks
