I was so sure it would be the perfect day for a winter hunt,

the kind of morning that promises

something special. The car ride to Harrisville State Park felt oddly quiet, except for the heater

rattling against the cold, and my German shepherd jacks panting in the back seat. Every few

miles I glanced over my shoulder to make sure he was as fired up as I was.
