Alaska, it's one of the most expansive, rugged, and dramatic landscapes on the planet.

For travelers and seekers near and far, Alaska is a land of opportunity.

For the indigenous people and the folks who call it home, it's a lifeline for culture, family,

and sustenance. But for anyone who travels its winding roads, its twisting trails, or its alluring

wilderness, all too often, Alaska becomes the land

of the lost.

Today's video covers the story of five people who mysteriously vanished in Alaska.

Their stories are different.

They all came from different places,

different walks of life,

with different hopes and different dreams.

But these five people had one thing in common.

They all disappeared in South Central Alaska.

That is the land spanning a radius

of about 150 miles from Anchorage, the largest city in the state.

By Alaskan terms, Anchorage is, quote, the big city, and has the densest population with about 350,000 people.

Most travelers going to and from Alaska will start their journey in Anchorage,

as it's the gateway to the beautiful Kenai Peninsula, the bountiful Matanuska Valley, and the majestic

Denali National Park. But Anchorage and the land surrounding it can also be deceiving.

The metropolitan area, just like any big city in the U.S., is bristling with an underbelly of crime,

with the highest rates of domestic violence in all of North America.
