White-tailed deer hunters are an odd group, not by intention or even willingly.

They're unusual in a global sense because pretty much all the game they hunt is about the same size.

Even in areas with plentiful wild hogs to hunt,

in addition to white-tailed deer,

most of those hogs will weigh between 100 and 200 pounds, about the same as a deer.

And something like 80% of American hunters fall into this,

Whitetail hunter category. It's a surprisingly large number. In contrast, hunters around the world generally have a broad spectrum of wild game sizes that they hunt.

Whether it's Europeans shooting everything from 80 pound

row deer up through big wild boar moflawn fallow deer and so on including red deer or

Africans shooting game from 40 pound Dikers up to

1900 pound eland or South Americans and Australians shooting game from

Black Buck and Kangaroo up to Red Deer right on up to Asiatic Water Buffalo

or Western US hunters with anything from prong horn andlope up through mule deer and elk and bear and the occasional moose on the menu.

Well, most hunters, in a global sense, have a pretty vast spectrum of body sizes to

shoot at.

It sort of dawned on me that this is likely the primary reason that our American

hunters as a whole are more complacent about bullet construction than most hunters around the world.

It just doesn't take much of a special bullet to cleanly kill a white-tailed deer.
