Hey everyone, welcome back to the show.

Today's guest is the Washington Post Max Boot. Max has a new book out, Reagan, his life, and legend.

I think Reagan is incredibly relevant to the themes of this podcast leading to the 2024 election

for the following three reasons.

Number one, the Reagan era of American politics is over.

Successful political figures during realignments are able to define politics in their terms. Whether you like him, hate him, or think he's just whatever,

Reagan defined the terms of American politics moving forward from the 1980s onward.

So as we enter into a new political future, defined by realignment today,

understanding the way that Reagan's era and Reagan's issues and ideas

are different than the present is absolutely key.

Number two, Reagan fits into the

overall spectrum of the leadership of the Republican Party as the right debates

its future no matter what happens in November understanding Reagan's position

on ideas that are Trumpist, like immigration,

the tax cuts, defense policy, etc. is absolutely key.

Last but not least, you're going to see a bunch of folks moving forward, especially if Trump loses the 2024 election who are going to argue we need to return to Reaganism.

This is the Nicky-Hilly school of thought.

There are plenty of people who see that Reagan's sunny optimistic vision was actually capable of winning popular and electoral votes

Something the modern Republican Party is I've been able to do so as you see these figures offer their visions for the Republican Party moving forward

Understanding Reagan's ideas is absolutely key.
