Summary

Who do you think you are?

Have you ever asked yourself that seriously?

Most people have an idea, a story, about who they are and that narrative creates their identity. However, narratives are not absolute truths and you have way more power over yours than you think.

In this episode, you’ll learn what a personal narrative is and why learning how to control yours is one of the most important skills you can cultivate. I walk you through an exercise in uncovering your narrative, in deciding what you want your life and your story to be about, and an exercise in seeing the contrast that all humans naturally have.

You are the main character of your life, so how will you write your story?

What You Will Discover:

  • Why learning how to control your narrative is so important.
  • How people with similar circumstances can have vastly different lives.
  • Why personal narratives are not absolute truths.
  • The power of an “I am” thesis.
  • An exercise to uncover your current narrative.

For all the people who are in self-coaching scholars, I'm also teaching a supplemental class workshop for

entrepreneurial management class and that's a

0:54.4

completely different thing than a personal narrative which is what I'm going to teach about here.

So a personal narrative is simply a story that we create about people or things that we think are true.

And the most important narrative you're ever going to have is the narrative you have about yourself and the

narrative you have about your life. And every single human has a narrative, has a

story running in their head that creates their identity and sets them up for who

they think they are.

So it's kind of like when someone, who the hell do you think you are? The narrative that you have about yourself is who you think you are.

1:37.0

I've talked many times about the difference between an absolute truth and reality, a pure circumstance, something that exists

1:48.0

in the world that's irrefutable, and the the anxiety comes from not discerning between those two things.

2:05.1

We actually think our narratives are the truth.

2:08.8
