Now last time, Caleb, we saw the Americans get their tails handled to them at the

Battle of Queenston Heights. It was a huge, great big, Mohawk British victory, but it wasn't really

decisive for determining the course of the war. It just delayed it and made it a bigger, bloodier conflict.

Shortly after this battle, on July 10th, 1813, our old friend Commander Granger got together Red Jacket and some other Seneca chiefs and warriors on his farm,

and they prepared for another British counterattack.

Now the British were coming to attack Black Rock.

This is actually a community just south of modern-day Buffalo.

There was another guy who we haven't really introduced before, and he's on some famous documents, but a farmer's brother.

That's actually his name.

I don't know if his farmer actually was a brother or not, or if that was just

his Seneca name, but he brought about three dozen Seneca men and they helped repel the British

invasion. After this, the Seneca people start to realize, you know what, the British are coming

across the river. They could be attacking our settlements next. So this is when the six nations

that are on the United States side of

the border, they officially declare war on the British. Because Farmer's brothers said, you know what,

our country was just invaded. And now we have a common interest with the people of the United States.

Now, Andrew, some people might wonder why people like the Seneca would side with the Americans.
