Richard Lee McNair was born on December 19, 1958.

He and his three younger brothers, grew up in South Central Oklahoma with a father

who was a reserve police officer. Richard joined the Air Force and moved to Mynot, North Dakota.

He was working as an Air Force military police officer on base and also worked with the

The local police appreciated Richard and thought he did excellent work. During his time as an

informant, his efforts led to at least one large cocaine bust. One of Richard's brothers

thought he was the smartest person he'd ever met. His brother looked up to him and believed he

was a good man, right up until Richard changed. November 17, 1987 was the day Richard went from

enforcing the law to breaking the law. Richard McNair walked into the grain elevator at the Farmers Union Elevator Company.
