Summary

Shana, Charlie, and Josh sit down to discuss the tips that come in to Josh and those included in the case files, how we process and evaluate them, some of the wilder tips we've received, patterns we've noticed, and more. Plus, we read a brand new tip, in its entirety, then share our thoughts on it and how best to move forward with it.

Hey everybody, this is day two of the true crime bullshit five year anniversary that we should have a name for it

1:02.4

extra propaganda I guess and so I thought you know when I was thinking about the different behind the scenes and bonus episodes we could do, a tips episode would be really interesting and I think valuable for folks because we get so many in and some of them are so

1:15.9

imperative and instructive in the work that we do. So I thought it would be nice to

1:20.9

kind of peel back the curtain to show you all what kind of tips come in the process and then we have a few tips that we've pulled most of which have not ever been discussed publicly and we're going to break down, you know, their value, what we what stands out to us, and then how we would proceed with each of those tips. So I'm here with Shayna who is the true crime

1:46.8

bullshit tip queen and then Charlie Worrell from the crime lines and

1:52.1

crime lines and consequences podcast who Charlie Whirl from the Crime Lines and Crime Lines and Consequences Podcast who I find to be one of the most

1:58.0

hilariously discerning true crime podcasters or notiously, but hilarious and discerning.

2:05.0

I appreciate that.

2:07.0

And so I thought that you would be a good addition here because I think you know enough

2:11.0

about the Keys case that you can have, I think, an informed and thoughtful conversation about these tips, while also not being so in the weeds as Shayna as I that you might be able to balance out some of our biases.

2:25.0

That said, I want to start with just tips in general.

2:32.0

So I would say, you know, and they fluctuate depending on whether the show is airing or not, but on average when the show is airing, we probably get four to 12 tips every single day. And they vary from like,

2:50.3

hey, you should look into this case to,

2:53.4

I believe I hadn't encountered with keys on these dates.

2:57.9

And, you know, we take each tip seriously.

3:00.5

I think if there's a delay in hearing your tip or hearing back from us, it's because either we're not in production or I just have a lot going on or we are doing our best to kind of analyze the tip, bet it, and then place it in an order that is most productive

3:16.9

to the show's production schedule.

3:21.5

That said, I would say 40% of the tips that come in are is information we already have and have looked into or oftentimes it's information that's already been aired on the show. We get a lot of tips that keys could be responsible for Mora Marie, which I've addressed on the show, and that is more or less just people who have just started listening and haven't made their way to that episode yet, so I don't regret those tips, but we do get a lot of those tips. And then after that I would say about 40% are you should look into this case and then the remainder are people who believe that they haven't had encounters with keys. So it's a lot to go through particularly because we get the most when we're in production.
