welcome to another episode of tangentially speaking today's

guest is a guy named Michael Garfield he hangs out in Santa Fe New Mexico I

was down there a month or so ago and dropped by his place and we went into

his office and all hell broke loose as you'll hear in this conversation.

We go from AI to placebo to prehistory to the future.

It just goes all over the place.

And that's fitting because Michael is that kind of intelligence.

He's thinking outside the box.

I don't even know if he,

I don't know if he's ever thought inside the box.

He describes himself as a paleontologist futurist.

Until recently he was working at the Santa Fe Institute running their

podcast if you're not familiar with the Santa Fe Institute it's a bunch of

highfalutin intellectuals from all over the world

talking about all kinds of interesting stuff doing all kinds of synthesizing work.

And Michael was kind of floating around in the middle of that.

He has his own podcast called the Future Fossils Podcast.

He's a writer, he's a talker, he's a DJ, he's a DJ he's a musician yeah he's one of those people and as you'll hear he's

highly articulate he's so articulate that you know it's kind of like the Russell Brand effect

where someone's so articulate you kind of get mesmerized by the way they put words together and then I mean I do anyway and then you kind of like oh wait what did he just say what what was the content there?

I missed the content because I was kind of mesmerized by the style.
