Summary

James Nichols shot and killed Cha Vang, a 30-year-old Hmong hunter from Green Bay and tried to claim self-defense. This was the second major incident that took place between Hmong and White hunters in northern Wisconsin and increased tensions in the state.

Everyone went their separate ways and agreed they would meet back at their vehicle at sunset.

Pao Moa was worried since their friend had not returned, and at first thought he was lost.

Panic set in, and Paul Moa called 911 at 6.30 p.m. The search started around 8 p.m. that night. Local search crews aided law enforcement, but at 1.30 a.m., the hunter still wasn't found.

That same Friday evening, 28-year-old James Nichols and his fiancé, Darcia James, walked into the Bay Area Medical Center in Marinette, Wisconsin.
