Hello and welcome back to Cult Leader. I'm your Cult Leader, Spencer Henry, and today we are going to be talking about a case that definitely made a strong impression on my little true crime heart back in 2008, which was 12 years ago.

How was 2008, 12 years ago? I feel bamboozled, but before we go into it, let's talk about the things.

Well, I went to the Drive-In this weekend, and that was really fun to do. I had not been to a Drive-In movie in such a long time, and I brought Hot Dog with me, which was cute. She, I think, had a good time.

And if you have a near you or you live in LA, it's a fun, safe thing to do. I'm still taking a lot of precautions when I leave the house and what I'm leaving the house for, but also we're going into six months of this shit because our leadership is wack. It's just so frustrating.

This will be short, but it's frustrating how countries have other countries have handled it and are like back to business because I feel like if we would have just gone on like a really heavy duty two week lockdown back in March, we'd be out of this by now. But here we are.

And I don't know if you guys follow me or not on Instagram, but I shared something the other day that was super important. So I'm going to tell you all here. I guess the post office is urging voters that are mailing in their selection to mail them early due to a 14 day turnaround on the ballots.

So make sure your vote is counted, send them in on October 20th instead of November 3rd. I'm Spencer Henry and I approve this message.

Anyways, I'm super bummed because I feel like all the Halloween things are being canceled already, which I get they probably take months of planning, but I'm sad because I love Halloween so much and going to Hornets at Universal and all the spooky things.

But I guess America is a haunted house right now. So there's nothing scarier than the news. Maybe it's time to embrace that mindset and we'll just all start living in fear. You never know what's coming next.

But really, I hope we get our shit together soon. And I'm sorry if I sound complaining lately. I feel like every episode I'm like, what's going on? But I'm not a complaining person. I think there's always a silver lining to everything.

I hope that we can all start, you know, I hope I picked up I know personally some habits during this quarantine time that are really healthy. I've been working out and I've been on a pretty good routine with all of that. I already worked from home. So it hasn't been a huge shift for me like it has been for some people.

And as always, I'm really thinking about all of the culpames everywhere that have to go to their jobs because they're considered an essential worker. So I just hope you guys are being as safe as possible and know that I am thinking about you guys. But without further ado, let's get to the good stuff.

I present the chilling story of one of America's craziest ex girlfriends, Ms. Jody Arias Lego.

She was born on July 9th, 1980. She just missed you birthday, happy birthday, girly and Selena's California to Bill and Sandy. According to Jody, her childhood was tough.

Stating that from the age of seven onwards, she was abused by her parents. The abuse was not uncommon. I'm not saying it was right by any means. But when she talks about the abuse, it was spankings with a belt or a wooden spoon. And I feel like a lot of people that I know got spanked as children. Not just the same.

I'm not saying it was spanked as children. Not my mom. Laura was not about spanking, which like, thank god, but also probably why I was such a shit teenager. Aside from this, there's nothing really alarming. I did read an article on feminine collective.com by a writer named Dory Owen, who interviewed Jody's mom, Sandy. And she counteracted Jody's story a little bit.

Jody was the couple's first child. They were 22 when they got married, which now feels so young. But she says that Jody had a happy normal childhood, nothing out of the ordinary, nothing to see here. Jody was really close with her brother Carl, who was two years younger than her. And Jody has two additional younger siblings, a sister named Angela, and a much younger brother, Jody, who was only 16 in 2008 when this whole shit show really took off.

Jody was already out of the house by the time he was growing up. But moving forward, she wasn't the best student. Just kind of all around average girl. Around the age of 10, she picked up photography as a hobby, which would later turn into a part-time money maker for her, and a huge part of the later investigation, which, come on, we'll get to.

She attended the Waibrica Union High School and kind of glided through her freshman and sophomore years, but when she hit junior year, she was over it and ended up dropping out of school and obtaining her GED instead. Jody left home at 17 in a typical teenage rebellion phase and moved in for a short time with her then boyfriend.

She began working at what was to be a series of jobs over the next couple of years. She was ambitious and highly motivated to be financially independent. She was a server at several restaurants before she moved and ended up as a server at a restaurant inside of the Ventana Inn in Spa in Carmel, California.

This was in the fall of 2001, so she's like 21 at the time when she started working here. While she's working at that restaurant, she met the restaurant's food and beverage manager, Darryl Brewer, and the two began dating in 2003.
