Hello and welcome to Under the Skin. My name's Russell Brand, I host it. This week I spoke to Darren Brown.

We spoke about stoicism, the psychology of social political standpoints, faith healing, how we frame suffering, relationships theology, and also at the end of the episode. There's a rather lovely story about a parrot.

We also talked about consumerism, we talked about Darren's career as an illusionist.

He's a bit of a kind of anti-magician, anti-illusionist, not a hypnotist, isn't he? But he also does shows that feel adjacent to those things, always underwritten by a kind of deconstructionalist sort of standpoint.

He's a fascinating, thoughtful, gentle, bright, kind man. I like him very much. I've watched a lot of his interviews and things, and I think this is a good one.

Deep Timber Voice seems to have mesmerized you Rusty. It's the calmest, slowest, and most willing to allow silent pauses in all the podcasts you've made. Very interesting content.

I enjoyed him very much. He was good, wasn't he? Yeah. He was very good. He was insightful. I mean, that's a Cambridge professor right there.

That's not just someone we've dragged in off the street from beneath a bench. He was claiming he's fixing the bench. No, no, no. It's an actual academic.

Susan Azzymboya, this episode was brilliant. Rusty Rockies will usher in the mini-democracy utopia after the robots take over.

Look, don't worry about these robots. I hear a lot of this with the robots. I don't think that's going to happen. All right, oh good, that's fine then because guess who does Elon Musk and he knows more about well, still don't worry.

I don't know why have this faith in human beings and divinity. I don't know why it is. I don't know why I feel that we are somehow connected to nature and one another, limitlessly and infinitely in our perception of time and matter.

It's not illusory, somehow holographic, temporal, contextual and not total, an absolute or objective. Meaning, I reckon we can manipulate reality through our consciousness if that only means by imagining new realms and bringing them into being.

I always go, what do you get? So I get like computer game things like for little battles. Sometimes, what does it tell me about me? Some weird stuff. I think YouTube, they know as me better than I know myself.
