Can the cartridge you use really make a difference to the potential outcome of your hunt?

Really savvy hunters will argue that the bullet type makes a bigger difference because the

cartridge is just the launching platform after all and they're right

however the bullets you're able to launch effectively is greatly dictated by the cartridge so, the cartridge you choose to use can absolutely

influence the outcome of your hunt. Now usually folks like to debate the merits

of similar cartridges such as whether the 6.5

Creedmoor or the 6.5 PRC is better. So a recent onslaught of questions about

whether the 7 MM PRC or the 300 Winchester Magnum is better,

had me a bit puzzled. They're quite different cartridges.

Then I realize something. These questions indicate a massive shift on the status quo of the most popular magnum cartridges.

For decades, the 3001 mag has been the magnum of choice for non-dangerous game around the world.

The fact that practical-minded hunters recognize a serious contender is significant.

It's particularly significant considering the fact that the 7 MMPRC is also the youngest Magnumum on the market.

Before attempting to unpack this comparison and draw logical conclusions from it, let's try

and find some criteria.

Most of the listeners writing in with questions wanted to know about the specific characteristics of the two cartridges.

Some of those questions are pretty basic, such as, which is better inside 600 yards?

Still, that provides us a benchmark. Others question, which is more inherently

accurate, whether there will be plentiful factory animal available for the 7MPRC and if so how soon and so forth.

Now I can't claim to be an oracle and all-knowing profit on what's going to happen with the 7m.
