The Department of Education could become a thing of the past.

President Trump has signed an executive order which would largely dismantle it.

Education Secretary Linda McMahon tells Fox's Brett Baer she wants to meet with members of Congress.

I think if we can show them that the best plan is to have states in control of education

for their communities, for their students, for their teachers, for their parents.

That is the best thing.

And she says President Trump understands the limits of what they can do.

He would like for me to move as swiftly as we can because he believes the sooner that we can

close the department, the more efficiently we can have the funds distributed to the states,

and perhaps they will even have more funding. The department can only be eliminated through

an act of Congress. Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer called the decision horrible.

The president signing another executive order today.

This one aimed at boosting domestic production of lithium and other critical minerals,

in part by using the Defense Production Act.

It also directs federal agencies to create a list of U.S. mining projects

that could be quickly approved.

A federal judge calls the Trump administration's latest response on deportation

flights to El Salvador, woefully insufficient, saying the Justice Department today merely repeated

information already provided to the court. Judge James Bosberg today announced that he's upset

and frustrated that DOJ missed this deadline earlier today.

The deadline was at noon.
