From the moment that Adam and Eve ate that forbidden fruit, history was marching toward these three words. This is John 19, verse 30. When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, it is finished.

And he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

This morning when I read over this passage once again in preparation for doing what we're

now doing, him flooded into my mind that I want to read to you that just is so important in this moment.

When I survey the wondrous cross on which the prince of glory died, my richest gain, I count but loss.

And poor contempt on all my pride.

Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,

save in the death of Christ my God,

all the vain things that charm me most,

I sacrifice them to his blood.

See from his head, his hands, his feet, sorrow and love flow mingled down.

Did ere such love and sorrow meet, or thorns compose so rich a crown?
