This is the Baymont podcast with Marty Solomon. I'm his co-host, Brent Billings. Today,

0:10.8

we look at the record of Matthew attempting to understand his unique agenda as he presents

0:15.6

the life and ministry of his rabbi Jesus. Finally, dive into some text this week. I've

0:22.2

been doing a lot of context up to this point. I've been doing a lot of Hellenism, looking

0:25.8

at the five responses to Hellenism, asking some personal reflection questions, setting

0:30.2

up the context of gospel narrative. Finally, get back to some biblical text. Feels good,

0:34.8

doesn't it? Absolutely. That's what we do, right? We're going to get back to you.

0:38.2

Feels good until you make me read what I'm about to read. Brent gets to read a genealogy

1:12.0

to use the life of Christ to communicate their agenda and communicate their message. But

1:16.7

every one of them has a unique message. So we're going to start today with Matthew and

1:20.7

we're going to look at Matthew's agenda. I hear a lot about the synoptic gospel. Matthew,

1:25.5

Mark, and Luke. They're all the same thing, basically. Exactly. They're all written for

1:30.2

very different reasons. Absolutely. Even that alone, the synoptics, they're covering the

1:35.6

same material. That's why we want to harmonize them. And John, I was taught in college, John

1:40.3

was kind of written to help at the end to help fill in the gaps, to catch all those
